From Marlvin-James Dadzie, Ellembelle, WR
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has said his government is constructing real roads to improve the mobility of Ghanaians but not the artistic impressions of roads as was shown by the erstwhile Mahama administration to deceive Ghanaians.
“We are not doing Green Book propaganda roads. We’re doing genuine roads”, he told a gathering of chiefs and people of Bukazo in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region yesterday.
Nana Akufo Addo was at Bukazo to cut sod for the construction of 200km of roads in the Ellembelle District. He expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of Ellembelle for appreciating the good works of his government and pledged to fulfil all the promises he made to the district.
Before Nana Akufo Addo took to the podium, the Paramount Chief of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area, Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III, had extolled the good works of the president, calling him a “Promise Fulfiller”
Earlier, the Minister for Roads and Highways Mr. Kwesi Amoako Atta said government had undertaken to construct significant road infrastructure in the Western Region over the last three years.
He said 80 road projects, comprising highways, feeder roads and urban roads were currently ongoing in the Western Region while 25 more were about to take off. All these, he said, amounted to a total of 1,258 km of roads in the region.
“Every Ghanaian is admitting the great strides government has made in the road sector. It is very encouraging”, he said.
The road sector, which he said constitutes 98% of the entire transport sector, plays a major role in the country’s developmental agenda.
He said good roads were the foundation for the country’s industrialization advancement as well as improving access to farm goods.
