President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, January 31, 2026, inaugurated the SheaPark Resource Hub at the Wa Naa’s Palace, describing it as a major step towards economic revival and industrial growth in the Upper West Region.
The flagship initiative is aimed at transforming the regional economy through industrialisation and value addition in the shea sector, positioning the Upper West as a key player in Ghana’s broader agro-industrial transformation drive.
Speaking at the launch, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, the brain behind the initiative, described the occasion as a “royal honour and blessing,” and thanked the organisers for involving him in what he termed a historic intervention.
He said the SheaPark Resource Hub offers a critical development pathway not only for the Upper West Region but for Ghana as a whole, noting that its launch marks a significant milestone in efforts to revive the regional economy through sustainable, inclusive and community-led development.
Mr Bagbin further explained that the initiative aligns with major government programmes such as the Big Push, the 24-Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development agenda. He added that the concept reflects President Mahama’s vision of a self-reliant, industrially competitive and export-oriented economy anchored in strong value chains and a globally competitive workforce.
Launching the facility, President Mahama stressed the importance of adding value to local resources to create jobs, raise incomes and reduce poverty, especially in historically underserved regions.
The event drew a high-level audience, including the Paramount Chief of Wa, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV; the Member of Parliament for Wa Central; regional ministers; Municipal and District Chief Executives; parliamentary and presidential staff; and other distinguished guests.
The SheaPark Resource Hub is expected to serve as a catalyst for growth in the shea industry, expand export opportunities and strengthen Ghana’s drive towards inclusive industrialisation.
