The campaign team of Albert KwabenaDwumfuor, an aspiring presidential candidate of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Friday visited Graphic Communications Group.
The team was there with the candidate primarily to interact with delegates as part of his campaign activities.
Chairman of the campaign team, Gabriel Bosompem, led the power pact delegation which included seasoned journalist and former President of PRINPAG, KentemanNiiLaryeaSowah, a former senior staff of Graphic Communications,
Vance Azu, General Manager of 4syte TV Mohammed Alhassan, outgoing President of National Union of Ghanaian Students (NUGS) Isaac Jay Hyde, Western Regional Secretary of GJA, ZambagaRufaiSaminu, Upper East Regional Chairman of GJA Eric Amoh, among others.
First, the team paid a courtesy call on the Editor of the Newspaper, Mr Vincent KobinaAsmah. In his usual smiling elements, the senior Journalist welcomed the delegation with excitement and enthusiasm.
He assured the team of his unflinching support as a member of the Association, hoping that leadership would work hard to redeem standards in journalism in the country, introduce all-inclusiveness, management of sound policies at all levels to activate, reactivate, and improve activities of the GJA.
He then led the delegation to the Graphic newsroom where the Chairman of the campaign team, Gabriel Bosompem, introduced the team before the address of the aspiring President of the Association.
Speaking to the Graphic staff, Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, catalogued a number of achievements chalked under his watch as an organizing secretary of the Association.
These included the acquisition of top notch sponsors for the GJA Flagship annual awards, the use of world class venues for the awards, piloting of an insurance package for journalists to be rolled out nationwide subsequently, the unionization bargaining certificate secured by the GJA, revitalization of regional branches of the Association among others.
The aspiring presidential candidate assured the delegates of his commitment to introduce pragmatic policies that certainly would be tailored towards improving the welfare of members of the Association.
He said his administration would also focus on addressing many constitutional drawbacks, irregularities and other social ills, hitherto confronting implementation of policies within the Association.
Through the application of attractive business strategies, Albert KwabenaDwumfuor, pledged to utilize his wider business network by connecting the Association to the right institutions and organizations in the public and private sectors.
He said rolling out an insurance package for all members of GJA, would become a primary focus to take care of retirees. This, he assured would remain one of his uncompromising policy initiatives when he eventually he secures the nod of members of the Association.
His remarkable presentation, which was described as appetizing, was not only well received, but attracted rapturous applause from the potential delegates who would be making the final decision for the GJA at the polls.
When it was time for questions, the staff of Graphic Communications Group (news department) questioned the candidate on his stewardship, matters affecting members especially on welfare, leadership and professional development
But, with speed, accuracy and experience at his fingertips, he satisfactorily answered them from Archeology to Zoology.
The most attractive question among the lot, however came from Charles Benoni Okine, one of the senior staff of Graphic Communications Group.
He wanted the candidate to throw more light on a grapevine he tumbled, that the vision of the candidate upon assumption of office, would be to acquire vehicles for all the regional chapters of the Association to make them operational while using his wider network and business acumen to purposefully achieve that.
Although this question attracted attention and delegates who were glued to their seats attentively listening, then waited tentatively with baited breath to hear from the man tipped to win the race for the coveted GJA Presidency.
Fortunately, his answer rather earned him admiration, as he projected with his batter trade flagship policy geared towards influencing Banks in the country including ADB to take up the arduous task of securing the vehicles for regional branches of the GJA, and in place of that, widened their outdoor advertising programs in rural Ghana through branding and effective collaboration with the GJA at the local level.
