Workers of the Tema Oil Refinery have expressed anger over the poor manner in which the state facility is being managed.
The workers are therefore threatening to embark on a sit-down strike and subsequently demonstrate against the management of the facility for its abysmal performance
Based on this, the workers and the Tema District Council of Labour have indicated they will be holding a joint press conference on Friday June 10 to air out their grievances.
According to the workers and TDCL, the press conference has become necessary as the Refinery faces eminent collapse due to factors they claim include, mismanagement, indecision, lack of fore sight by management among others.
The workers last week threatened a sit-down strike followed by a joint press conference and demonstration together with the Tema District Council of Labour.
According to the workers and their counterparts at the Tema District Council of Labour, the current Managing Director is not performing and the Refinery’s fortunes continue to dwindle under his leadership.
“The Refinery is collapsing, things are not working, everything is disorganized and we don’t have anyone to listen to us or come to our rescue. So this is the time where we have decided to tell our story and paint the true picture at TOR. Nothing is working, TOR debt continue to increase, salary payment is becoming a serious problem.” a worker mentioned
Among other things the workers have petitioned the President over the poor performance of the MD and the board of directors and have thus appealed for their removal.
The staff are thus appealing to the president to do the needful and change their MD. They say TOR needs a business minded person who can turn the assets around as they believe the President will surely appoint a person of that calibre to succeed the incumbent MD as the plant is collapsing.
There seem to be serious agitation within the worker front at the Tema Oil Refinery due to the alleged non functioning of the company.
According to the workers, the nation’s premier Refinery is bleeding and will soon collapse if nothing is done to save it.
” This Refinery is gradually collapsing and people are playing politics with our red alert. Sooner than later, the reality will dawn on us and we will have a bigger price to pay as a nation” some workers said.
It is not clear what the detail of the press conference would be, but information gathered indicates that the workers would outline some decisions to be taken to press home their demand.
