Some irate youth of Sefwi-Nambro in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region have vowed to storm about thirteen illegal mining (galamsey) sites in their catchment area to stop the activities of illegal miners if the government fails evacuate them.
This comes after a suspected landguard shot a 38-year-old farmer, Kwadwo Kintoh, at a galamsey site at Sefwi Nambro in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region on Friday.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred during the operation of an excavator to construct a path through the victim’s farm to the galamsey site
Source indicated that the farmer refused to sell his land to the illegal miners due to a low compensation package and that generated into a heated argument between the suspect and the farmer in the bush.
The suspect, who at the time of the argument had a gun (Pistol) on him, pulled it out and gave a warning shot with intention of intimidating the farmer, but accidentally hit the armpit of the farmer.
The suspect thinking he had killed the farmer took to his heels. The farmer, however, managed to report the case to the Bibiani police, but no arrest has been made.
According to the source, the police would soon commence an investigation into the incident to bring the culprit to book.
Meanwhile, the victim is currently on admission at Bibiani Municipal Hospital, responding to medical treatment.
