Intensified lobbying for the position of Director General (DG) of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) is flaring tempers at the State’s lottery regulatory, setting the now former DG, Osei Ameyaw, 61, on as collision course with his deputy, Yaw Amoakohene Baafi, who insiders say, is desperately seeking to be given an appointment even if to man the Authority in an Acting capacity.
Osei Ameyaw’s tenure at the NLA officially was over, coincidentally, on his birthday, 20th February, this year, but like Oliver Twist, his lobbyists have gone to work, pushing very hard for him to be given a contract to stay on for another year or two.
However, allies of the deputy NLA DG, Yaw Amoakohene Baafi, who is considered by many to have a soft spot for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have also set in motion their agenda to get Osei Ameyaw out at all cost, even if it means getting their darling to serve in an Acting capacity for only six (6) months.
So intense is the mudslinging and bragging that one person with knowledge of Yaw Amoakohene Baafi’s intention and maneuvers, who wanted to be garbed with the cloak of anonymity dangerously boasted to this paper that “We have done all we need to do and we are aware that the President has even ordered Asante Bediatuo to give Yaw Baafi an appointment letter but the man is brazenly refusing to carry out the President’s order.”
Meanwhile, staff and the Lotto Marketing Companies (LMCs) are imploring President Nana Akufo Addo to show both Osei Ameyaw and Yaw Amoakohene Baafi the exit for peace to reign at the NLA.
“Why are they desperately seeking to remain at post to the extent that they are outdoing each other? What at all is at the NLA that Osei Ameyaw doesn’t want to let go and his deputy is also moving all lengths to get his boss’ position, meanwhile it is the two of them who made the place a scandal-prone authority,” an LMC member told this paper.
