Government will prioritize social protection programmes as a crucial aspect of its development agenda in the Mid-Year Budget Review to be presented on Monday, 31 July 2023, by Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The Finance Minister is also expected to outline the positive impact of these programmes on vulnerable communities across the country. Government’s commitment to expanding the reach of these initiatives may also be highlighted, ensuring that more citizens benefit from the support and services provided.
The Finance Minister’s hints ahead of the budget presentation have pointed to the government’s commitment to enhancing social safety nets and providing essential support and services to those in need. By prioritizing social protection programmes, the government aims to create an inclusive society where all citizens have access to basic necessities and opportunities for socio-economic advancement.
LEAP, one of the flagship social protection initiatives, seeks to provide financial assistance to the most impoverished households, empowering them to break free from the cycle of poverty. The School Feeding Programme, on the other hand, aims to improve the nutritional status of school children, ultimately enhancing their health and educational outcomes. Additionally, the National Health Insurance Scheme plays a crucial role in ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare for all citizens.
With a focus on uplifting vulnerable communities, the administration is anticipated to allocate significant resources to initiatives like the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), School Feeding, and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Furthermore, the administration’s emphasis on fiscal prudence is likely to be reiterated in the review, indicating a dedication to working within the existing budget framework while ensuring the efficient utilization of resources.
