The Danfa Health Centre, which serves about 19 communities in the Madina Municipality, has been in a state of disrepair due to poor infrastructure which requires urgent attention. This is a terrible situation based on the fact that a functional healthcare facility is essential for the well-being of the community.
The bad state of the facility has become a source of worry for health workers in the health Centre and many of them have expressed worry over the poor state of the facility, which they said has remained a death trap.
“The leakage of the roof disrupts our work activities anytime it rains, and this is very disturbing.”
“The roof on the corridor, which leads to the outpatients department (OPD) wards, leaks badly any time it rains. This leaky roof in the corridor which leads to the OPD wards is not only disrupting patient care but also posing a risk to the health and safety of the patients and staff. The fact that hospital authorities have to constantly move beds or transfer patients during rainfall highlights the urgency of the issue.”
Another issue in the hospital, is bad and poor nature of the washroom facility opposite the OPD ward which can lead to bacterial infection and Typhoid fever, a potentially fatal bacterial disease which can spread due to poor washroom condition in the hospital.
Furthermore, another issue hindering the work activity of the hospital is inadequate supply of detergent and toiletries used to keep the hospital clean by the nurses.
A doctor who spoke with the media stated that the authorities have played little role in developing the facility and further expressed her frustration over the diversion of funds meant for hospital renovations and the provision of items to keep the hospital clean and safe for patients.
Checks revealed the flooring in many of the wards, are in a state of disrepair, and need to be retiled. This is likely a significant maintenance or renovation project that will require planning, budgeting, and execution of management.
