Transport owners and tanker drivers have identified Jacob Amoah, the Director in Charge of the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) Scheme at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), as the primary cause of the confusion between the NPA and tanker drivers that led to last week’s nationwide strike.
According to sources, many stakeholders in the petroleum industry want the NPA boss, Mustapha Hamid to sack the UPPF Director to restore complete calm in that sector.
Our reliable sources indicate that the NPA boss doesn’t seem to be aware of the fact that Jacob Amoah is an NDC mole who is determined to harm the current government, according to sources.
Hassan Tampuli, Mustapha Hamid’s predecessor, dismissed Jacob Amoah, but for mysterious reasons, Mr. Mustapha Hamid brought him back.
This paper gathers that Jacob Amoah’s insistence on the fact that the NPA should be the one to pay (UPPF cash) to the tanker drivers is quite problematic when the transporters who own the tankers are the employers of the drivers.
In another development, there are concerns over the NPA’s decision to track fuel tankers when the transport owners are capable of doing so.
“Why should the NPA be responsible for tracking fuel trucks, when it should be the responsibility of the OMCs?” Our source questioned.
“There’s always an agreement between transporters and the oil marketing companies (OMCs). This implies that there is no agreement between Transporters and NPA. Therefore, why should NPA be the entity responsible for tracking trucks with a third-party tracking company and paying the tracking company huge some sums of money each month? Transporters do not sign an agreement with NPA,” the source said.
“The tracker they are talking about is the Container Tracker, which only tracks the vehicle or car and the fuel in the tank. “How will you know whether what’s in the car is proper fuel or water without a tracker?” the angry source continued.
Meanwhile, the tanker drivers called off their strike last Thursday after a stakeholders’ meeting. The communiqué announced the adoption of the framework for their remuneration and the expected commencement of its implementation by the end of June 2024.
