Irate youth of Senya Bereku Traditional Area in the Awutu Senya West District in the Central Region have massed up on the streets of Senya Bereku to picket against the ‘Omanhene’ of the town, Nenyi Issiw VII for allegedly retarding development in the area.
Senya Bereku is predominantly fishing and a farming community with no jobs for the teeming youth in the area, a situation according to them have hinder the youthful exuberance in the town.
According to the irate youth, majority of the youth force who could not bear with the unemployment impasse have opted to travel far and near to search for non-existing jobs.
Speaking at a well-attended picketing at Senya Bereku in the early hours of Tuesday, the Tufuhene and acting President of the Senya Bereku Traditional area, Ipi Kwa Bentum IV, who received the petition, revealed that, the embattled Omanhene of the Senya Bereku Traditional area, Nenyi Issiw’s actions and inactions are retarding and pushing back a lot of developmental projects including the establishment of Presby University in the area.
He explained that, the said project would have created sustainable employment for the people of the area especially the artisanal groups
Ipi Kwa Bentum IV, whispered that, today’s picketing was necessitated by an attempt by the Omanhene to push back another opportunity from Winners Chapel International to build a world class university in the area.
“We are not going to allow these opportunities to fly in the sky because of someone parochial interest to the detriment of the majority of the people of Senya Bereku, the people deserve a better jobs and development, he averred.
The Tufuhene who doubles as the acting president, continued that, documentation processes and progress has been seized due to unwarranted legal tussle between the Omanhene and the investors over the acquisition of the land, adding that, the said land does not belong to the Omanhene.
Ipi Kwa Bentum IV, stressed that, it is an opportunity for the town to redeem it endowed strength and developmental spirit to create enough employment opportunities for the people to curb the incessant rural – urban drift among the youths.
Disclosing their displeasure, the fisher folks told newsmen that, it is high time the people of Senya Bereku burry all differences and forge ahead as a developing partners and embrace opportunities of this sort.
These according to them will step up more opportunities for them to expand their fishing businesses to the next level of development which will help them get enough funds to take their children to the highest level of education.
The irate youth are therefore calling on the government to step in to allow this project to kick start to avoid trading the future of the town to a ransom and relinquish the unemployment pressure.
