Presidential Special Advisor on the Economy, Hon. Seth Terkper, has challenged young Ghanaians to pursue purpose-driven leadership and integrity in their careers, saying true impact comes from service to the nation.
Speaking at Academic City University’s Leadership Seminar Series in Accra, Mr. Terkper recounted his journey from Ghana’s Revenue Service to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and back, describing public service as a fulfilling lifelong mission.
“I have been a lifetime public servant,” he said. “From my national service days at the Procurement Agency to my years at the IMF, purpose has guided my every step.”
The former Finance Minister shared how his early work in tax reform and fiscal policy shaped Ghana’s revenue systems, adding that young professionals must view the public sector as “a platform for nation-building, not a fallback option.”
Despite arriving late due to cabinet duties and heavy rains, Mr. Terkper captivated the audience with reflections on leadership, economic management, and lessons from decades of reform.
“Purpose gives direction to your career and meaning to your service,” he told students. “That has been my guiding principle.”
The seminar, themed “The Power of Purpose – Shaping Tomorrow Through Public Sector Careers,” forms part of Academic City’s effort to nurture ethical and visionary leaders for national development.
