Some concerned residents of Teshie Tebibiano, within the greater Accra region and its environs, who have been affected by buildings without permits, have described the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) as incompetent.
According to them, in September, 2022, LEKMA issued two weeks’ ultimatum to residents of buildings without permits, but until now, they have not done anything about it.
This is what LEKMA said in a circular “building that don’t have permit or unlawful structures are not supposed to exist, so there are a number of options available to the assembly to take in order to” ensure that this campaign is taken seriously by everybody” they recalled.
Speaking in an interview, these concerned residents raised cencerns about the negative impact of these unlawful structures in their community, saying such buildings are not safe for human habitation.
There are a lot of these unlawful structures in the area which are looking very nice but are deathtraps.
There have been instances in Accra, where such buildings have collapsed and killed a number of people, others are also in water ways causing flooding, amongst others, which is not safe.
“We would not sit and watch these unlawful structures create serious problems in our community before we talk. This is the time we have to talk and ensure that LEKMA carries out its mandate effectively.
These unlawful structures have deprived the Teshie community of adequate infrastructural development.
They further alleged that LEKMA has demolished vulnerable persons unlawful structures around Bush
Road and its environs have left most of the rich people around Teshie Tebibiano and its environs.
“LEKMA is being selective in delivering its mandate.
