As part of its activities to carry the cancer awareness campaign to other parts of the country, US-based non-profit organization, Unlimited Cancer Care International, UCCI, through “The Condi Project” has donated hundreds of cancer-branded exercise books, Mathematical sets, backpacks among other educational materials to schools in Ada in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
The gesture is part of a bigger agenda by Unlimited Cancer Care International to help support educational institutions across Ghana with the requisite educational materials.
“The Condi Projects” campaign is led by a pupil of the Bill Hefner Elementary School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, who is also a leader of the school’s Beta Club, Diamond Condoleezza Awenteba Bukarson.
The Founder and President of Unlimited Cancer Care International, Ms. Agivert Jackson says, it is important to intensify the campaign against what she calls, “unfortunate and stressful” disease that has continued to plague and destroy homes over the years.
“To this end, as part of the organization’s activities in Ghana, UCCI decided to visit various schools in the country to educate and donate educational materials which are branded with information for the need to self-check for cancers and also how to manage the disease after diagnoses”. She said
The Condi Projects is a product by Ghanaian entity, LYB legacy Limited who are managers of all events, activities and programs of Unlimited Cancer Care International.
“The Condi Project” seeks to donate hundreds of thousands of cancer-related branded educational materials to hundreds of first and second circle schools across Ghana over time.
Ms. Jackson pointed out that, “at UCCI, we want to change the narrative where cancers are talked about only in the breast cancer awareness month of October each year”.
“Cancers are a step away from each one of us in one way of the other each day” She noted
Adding that, “In view of this, we must change the narrative. We must understand that this fight, is a non-stop battle for survival, and this explains why, at UCCI, we are going all gun blazing to ensure that, the messages resonate”.
According to Ms. Jackson, “considering that, treatment for cancers is extremely expensive, severe and time involving, it is incumbent on all to endeavor to join the campaign for preventions, instead of one of curative”.
“It is core to work hard towards prevention, rather than wait till one is diagnosed before we invest in curative measures, which measures mostly are too difficult to deal with” She said.
“Unlimited Cancer Care International, as part of efforts at creating awareness has therefore decided to introduce the provision and donation of hundreds of thousands of cancer-branded educational materials to our children in hundreds of schools in Ghana. This is help bring the message closer to them and by extension their homes and therefore their families”. She said.
“So here in Ada, UCCI is happy to kick-start this project by donating over five hundred cancer-branded exercise books, backpacks and other educational materials to two schools. We anticipate that these donations would go a long way to help our campaign”. She said.
Adding that, “even if these donations, led by my daughter, Dr. Condi saves one life, we would have made a bold step, going forward”.
Dr. Condi, as she is affectionately called, who led “The Condi Project” after presenting the educational material was full of joy for making what she prides herself as seeing, “a dream come true”.
“My parent and I have been planning this day for over three years now” She revealed
Explaining that, “each time we planned to come to Ghana for this day, something else comes up and the trip gets rescheduled, but to see this day, makes me happy and proud”
“It’s my first time coming to Ghana, but I already knew a lot about what I have seen since we have been in Ghana because my parents always told me what the Ghana stories were like and how kids like you need this support. So, to take up this project makes me glad”. Dr. Condi said
“The Condi Project”, is here to help support kids in Ghana with educational material, cloths, shoes and many other items that would make the Ghanaian kid happy to stay in school” she said.
Dr. Condi who is a leader at the Beta Club at Bill Hefner Elementary School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, expressed profound gratitude and love to her Principal, Dr. Zakiyyah Backman and her team who donated assorted school materials to be donated to schools in Ghana on her next visit.
“To my Principal, Dr. Backman, I want to thank you and the management of Bill Hefner Elementary school for this support”. She said.
“The Condi Projects” is especially happy that, you made time out of your busy schedules to travel with my parents and I to Ghana for these projects. We thank you ma’am for everything” Dr. Condi added.
