The traditional authority at Weija in the Greater Accra Region is threatening fire and brimstone over government failure to do proper due diligence which has led to the payment of some fifty (50%) of the Weija dam compensation to some unscrupulous individuals apportioned to the Weija Stool.
The Dzaasetse and acting Chief of Weija Ogbedada Boafo Danyina-Nse I, and his elders are contesting that the government has paid compensation for the compulsory acquisition of Weija water works lands to some wrong people parading themselves as royals from the stool.
‘It has come to our notice that in spite of the calls that we have made to the government led by president Nana Akufo Addo, his government has gone ahead to release part of the money to some unknown individuals claiming to be members of the stool, Nii said.
Nii is at a loss as to how compensation monies could be paid to individuals without recourse to the traditional authority. Nii explained that whiles the case is pending in Court, these unscrupulous individuals managed under dubious circumstances to secure a “fake judgement” under Mandamus and this we protested vehemently against as we the allodial owners were relegated to the background, through these machinations and government went ahead to make payments to these individuals between April and May 2022.
Daniel Akwaah Sackey 4,030,067.36, Robert Ayikwei Annan/Nii Tetteh Annan, 1,871,710.19, Dora Addo/Kojo Sackey 2,090,486.95, and Emmanuel Ashley/Kabu Cobblah 2,563,902.76.
Surprisingly Mr Nii Noi Morton (alias blow) claimed he has power of attorney on behalf of the above named individuals and he spearheaded the loot against the Chief and people of Weija and others.
The above payments to these underserving individuals have ruffled the feathers of the Weija traditional authority who are calling on the government to set up a committee of enquiry to investigate how come some officials of the state colluded with these miscreants to receive the monies paid to them.
“We are calling for a reversal of the decision for the right thing to be done over the payment of the Weija Dam compensation or we the hit the streets with a massive demonstration as well as use all other legitimate means available to us to ensure that government does the needful”. An angry Ogbedada Boafo Danyina-Nse I, stated.
We are by this medium warning the government to halt any further payment to the said individuals and revert to what the traditional authority is demanding.
‘As elders, we have on several occasions cautioned the government not to pay any money to the people parading themselves as persons from Weija apart from Ashaley Blafo and Anto Nyame families.
The only families that occupy the stool at a time on behalf of the stool and people of Weija per judgements.
Strangely enough an individual from Anto Nyame received some of the money while the substantive chief and his elders who are supposed to receive the compensation on behalf of the good people of Weija were rather sidelined and have not received a pesewa. How come payment was effected on the blind side of the allodial owners of Weija. This question must be answered by those who connived to take what does not belong to them.
It could be recalled that on the 3rd of March 2022, the Weija Traditional Council held a press conference demanding compensation from the government over the siting of the Weija Dam on its land.
The Traditional Council says 44 years after their forefathers gave the government over 13,580 acres of land for the construction of the dam, they are yet to receive any compensation.
At the said press conference, the traditional authority poured out its frustrations to the government over delays in the payments of compensations to the Weija Traditional Council, the chiefs and people of Weija expressed their disappointment at the government for the delays.
During the sod cutting on the 10th of December 2019 by President Akufo-Addo for the construction of the Weija Senior High School (SHS) Ogbedada Boafo Danyina-Nse I, appealed to the President to as matter of urgency pay the compensation for their land’s government acquired since independence.
Nii asked government to ensure that the compensation was paid to the rightful landowners since other mischievous persons were parading as beneficiaries of the compensations.
In his response President Akufo-Addo assured Nii and the people of Weija that he will see to it that the right thing is done. But from what has transpired it means that our concerns haven’t been addressed so we will “fight’ to get what rightfully belongs to us.
The payment of compensation has been lingering from 1978 when the government acquired the said land for the Weija water works expansion being operated by the Ghana Water Company Limited.
