Staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) have been beside themselves with joy and full of praise to President Nana Akufo Addo, since Friday, for extending the contract of the deputy director of the ministry in charge of service management, Anthony Boateng.
Describe by many as an institutional memory, Lawyer Boateng, as many a staff fondly refer to him, is to stay on the job for an additional year-from 17th August this year, to 16 August, next year.
Lawyer Anthony Boateng, staff say, single-handedly ensures that those who want to see the of the minister for their own gains do not succeed.
“It really shook some of us to the core when he came to park his official car last week. It was really an emotional moment for us, but as you can tell from my voice, I am very happy. Without this man alot of things would have gone wrong here(referring to the ministry),” a staff if the ministry told this paper under condition of anonymity.
According to the staff, it appears president Nana Akufo-Addo saw it that when Anthony Boateng is relieved off his post alot would go wrong thereby giving him another year to save the ministry from the claws of the greedy few.
Lawyer Boateng’s one year contract was against the backdrop from the Minister, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, for him to “continue his current role and assist in the development of National Education Institute as approved by Cabinet.”
Lawer Boateng was born 16th August 1960 at Effiduasi-Ashanti.
Had elementary (now Basic) Education at EffiduSi-Ashanti. After his Ordinary and Advanced Level education, he graduated as a professional teacher and taught for some time.
Anthony Boateng later joined the National Commission for Civic Education as a Research Officer on secondment from the Ghana Education Service.
On expiration of the secondment he reverted to the GES and served in various capacities until his current appointment as; Assistant Secretary at the GES Council Deputy Secretary, GES Council, Ag. Secretary, GES Council, Head of the Legal Unit of GES, Director for HRMD and Director for Special Education.
He is a senior Member of the Ghana Bar Association and belong to several professional bodies both locally and internationally. It might be important to add that he has served as Ag. Executive Secretary of the National Teaching Council and among his current schedules is that he is the Chairman of the National Steering Committee on the Implementation of Inclusive Education in Ghana.
