With the presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over, the Council of Elders of the party is urging party members at all levels to prioritize unity, reconciliation, and discipline as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
The Council stressed that collective effort would be crucial to securing victory and continuing the party’s governance agenda for the people of Ghana.
In a statement issued in Accra on Monday, and signed by Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP National Council of Elders, the Council expressed satisfaction with the entire electoral process, describing it as orderly, transparent, and free from incidents, from the pre-election stage through voting and the declaration of results.
According to the Council, the smooth conduct of the primaries reflects the maturity of the NPP, the strength of its internal democratic systems, and the commitment of party members to unity and discipline, as outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed by all presidential aspirants ahead of the contest.
The Elders commending the party’s presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, also praised the party leadership and the Presidential Elections Committee for what it described as professionalism, fairness, and diligence in managing the process.
They also applauded delegates and party supporters nationwide for their cooperation and exemplary conduct throughout the exercise.
The Council further acknowledged the Ghana Police Service for providing effective security that ensured a peaceful atmosphere during the primaries, as well as the Electoral Commission for its technical support. The media was also praised for responsible and professional coverage of the elections.
The statement formally congratulated Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on his victory in the primaries and commended the other aspirants for their participation and sportsmanship, particularly their acceptance of the results in the supreme interest of the party.
