Polling Station Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tro-bu Constituency in the Greater Accra Region have called on the leadership of the party to allow parliamentary contest in the Constituency.
According to them, doing so will help the party garner support of all in their efforts of maintaining the Parliamentary seat in Tro-bu Constituency.
Their call was borne out of alleged attempts by the leadership of NPP to approve the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Moses Anim to go unopposed in the upcoming Parliamentary primaries.
Addressing a Press Conference in Accra, Mr.Albert Asumadu, party activist and a Polling Station Executive noted that the leadership of the party had been informed about the true political situation in the Constituency and that instead of taking steps to address the abysmal performance of the incumbent MP over the eight years period of his stay in Parliament, the MP, Moses Anim and his cohorts have decided to fabricate untrue stories and allegations against his opponents for him to “consolidate his position in parliament.”
Albert Asumadu averred that the decision to disqualify candidates in Tro-bu Constituency including Edward Lincoln Addo was wrong.
According to him Edward Lincoln Addo had followed all laid down guidelines set by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party and availed himself for vetting.
“But he was not given any official communique even after officially writing to seek the outcome of the vetting. The official release from the Greater Accra Regional Vetting Committee of the NPP which was circulated in the media did not recommend seven (7) aspirants, including Edward Lincoln Addo, to the NEC to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries,” he said.
He also pointed out that the committee rather assigned fraudulent or criminal acts, forgery of documents for recognition and business transactions, scandalizing or bringing the image of the party into disrepute and failure to mature the constituency as reasons for their decision.
Albert Asumadu also pointed out that polling station executives as well as active members of the party in the Tro-bu constituency are very familiar with Edward Lincoln Addo who has done so much for the party over the years.
He mentioned that, “Mr. Addo has contributed immensely towards the growth and development as well as natured the constituency more than any other individual in the constituency.”
According to him, “This is his third attempt at parliamentary primaries in the constituency; unfortunately, the constituency executive including the MP claim they don’t know him and has never nurtured the constituency under any circumstances.”
He said his contributions are enough for the party leadership to review the decision of the Regional Vetting Committee to enable Mr. Edward Lincoln Addo to contest the primaries in the constituency.
He demanded the Greater Accra Regional Vetting Committee to provide the basis for which they claim Edward Lincoln Addo is not eligible to contest the primaries even when it is clear that the National Parliamentary Appeals Committee of the party had recommended that he is allowed to contest.
He said “What is our MP afraid of? The good Polling Station Executives of Tro-bu who gave him their mandate some 12 years ago, are the same people ready to cast their votes in the pending primaries. Does he no longer believe that should there be a contest he will win? Ladies and Gentlemen, we ask, what has changed this time around?”
He however indicated that the only reason for the imposition of the MP on the people of Trobu is that he, Moses Anim, ha lost touch with the rank and file of the party in the constituency “that is why he is running every type of race within the corridors of both leadership of the majority caucus in parliament and the Presidency to mislead them for him to go unopposed.”
Meanwhile, several polling station executives who are disappointed by the recommendations made by the Greater Accra Regional Vetting Committee of the NPP for the 2020 elections regarding the ineligibility of Lincoln Addo to contest the primaries have registered their displeasure through a petition to NEC of the party.
In view of the said petition, Albert Asumadu claimed polling station executives are receiving threats of having their names removed from the constituency album and deny them of other benefits from the party.
They however called on the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to give consideration to their concerns and stop self-seeking politicians to overtake the party
