At the recent hearing of the contempt case in the matter of the unlawful demolition of a 12-unit apartment building at Adjiriganor, the name of Samira Bawumia’s mother Hajia Aisha Ahmed popped up in court after the latter’s family had earlier denied any involvement or knowledge of the matter in court.
At the last hearing, the case took a dramatic turn as new revelations in court link the family of Ghana’s Second Lady, Samira Bawumia directly to the incident.
The property owner George Oti Bonsu, had filed a contempt case against Hajia Aisha Ahmed for her hand in the unlawful demolishing but the second lady’s family had always come out to deny knowledge of the matter.
However, during the contempt hearing on the 26th of October 2024, the defense lawyer, Kofi Abotsi, confirmed the identity of Hajia Aisha Ahmed as the mother of the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, a disclosure that sheds new light on the family’s role in the dispute.
The issue was raised when Lawyer Elikplim Agbamava, Lawyer for Mr Oti Bonsu (the applicant), pointed out that Hajia Aisha Ahmed (defendant) had not attended any court hearings since the contempt case began. In response, her Lawyer, lawyer Ernest Kofi Abotsi explained that his client, as the wife of Ghana’s ambassador to the UAE, is frequently out of the country, which prevents her from appearing in court.
This disclosure in open court is significant as it directly links the Second Lady and her family to the property and casts doubt on previous denials of any involvement in the case.
The case has stirred considerable public interest, with many following closely as it involves high profile individuals of the ruling NPP party.
