Dennis Appiah Larbi-Ampofo has been elected President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) after a landslide victory at the NUGS 2022 Elective Congress.
The resounding victory comes after the former Cape Coast University SRC President pulled 824 votes representing 78.18% in the presidential race. The closest competitor Kwesi Atuahene proved to be no match as the former GIJ student could only secure 197 votes representing 18. 69% of the total valid votes. The last of the three presidential candidates Charles Oppong a student of the University of Development Studies – Tamale pulled 33 votes representing 3.13% according to the electoral commission.
The election which took place at the GNAT Village Ejisu in the Ashanti Region was conducted in a very transparent, free and fair process. Delegates to congress were full of praise for the outgoing NUGS Executives and the Electoral Commission for delivering a very credible election.
Other electives elected include Joshua Opey- General Secretary, Lynn Willis as Secretary for Finance, Oppong Kyekyeku as Secretary for International Relations, Ransford Tege- Secretary for Education, Jessisca Twumasi as Secretary for Women Development among others.
The President Elect, Dennis Larbi Ampofo in his remarks called for unity amongst the rank and file of the union. He declared a new dawn for the union and promised to fight for students’ interest by giving a new meaning to the Union’s long-standing mantra, Aluta Continua!
