Political commentator and medical doctor Dr. Arthur Kennedy is calling for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be held accountable for the alleged corruption that occurred under his administration.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Dr. Kennedy argued that since Ken Ofori-Atta and other appointees served directly under Akufo-Addo, the former president must explain what actions he took when concerns about misconduct surfaced.
He stated that if Ken Ofori-Atta is being accused of mismanaging public funds, it is important to also examine the role of the president who supervised him. According to Dr. Kennedy, Akufo-Addo bears a “moral responsibility” to clarify how such alleged wrongdoing happened under his watch.
His comments come as the former Finance Minister prepares to face several corruption-related charges in court.
Dr. Kennedy further criticised what he described as a longstanding political culture where ruling governments protect their allies from prosecution despite evidence of wrongdoing. He warned that this practice weakens governance, damages public trust, and fosters impunity.
He added that this pattern makes Ghana’s democracy appear like a “serial one-party dictatorship,” where each government avoids accountability until it leaves office and the next one takes over to complain.
