An Electoral Commission (EC) staff member, Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to trigger the removal of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey.
Adumadzie, in a statement issued Monday, November 24, said the petition was submitted under Article 146 of the Constitution, which outlines the process for removing heads of independent constitutional bodies.
Though he declined to reveal full details—as required by law—he disclosed that the petition is based on 12 counts of stated misbehaviour, including accusations of cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence. He argues that their conduct has eroded public trust and threatens the credibility and independence of Ghana’s electoral system.
Adumadzie stressed that his action is motivated by the need to protect the Constitution and preserve the dignity of the EC, saying the Commission’s integrity is fundamental to sustaining a credible democracy.
He has urged President Mahama to honour his constitutional duty by referring the petition to the Chief Justice to determine whether a prima facie case exists, as required under Article 146.
