The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has issued a firm warning to event organisers, churches, companies, and social groups: no one is allowed to block roads in the city without an official permit from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
He stressed that blocking roads without authorization worsens traffic, obstructs emergency routes, and puts the public at risk.
The caution follows a Metropolitan Security Council (METSEC) meeting held on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, where security agencies and city officials assessed Accra’s safety, traffic, and sanitation situation ahead of the Christmas season.
Mayor Allotey said the AMA will now strictly enforce road-use rules, and anyone who flouts them will face sanctions.
He also announced the launch of “Operation Disaster-Free Christmas”, a joint initiative with the Ghana National Fire Service and NADMO aimed at reducing fire outbreaks in homes and business areas before, during, and after the festive period.
