Ghana’s Energy Minister, John Jinapor, has assured citizens that the country’s electricity supply remains stable, following recent anxieties over power reliability triggered by the Akosombo Dam fire incident.
Speaking during the President’s “Reset Tour” in the Eastern Region, Jinapor commended the efforts of engineers and technical staff from the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Ghana Grid Company Limited, crediting them with maintaining consistent electricity supply in the face of infrastructure challenges.
“On behalf of the President and the people of Ghana, I extend our gratitude to VRA and GRIDCo staff for their dedication. Their work has been instrumental in stabilizing the system,” he said.
The minister also outlined ongoing government interventions aimed at strengthening the national grid. Central to these efforts is the installation of more than 2,500 new transformers across the country, a move he said is intended to improve distribution efficiency and reduce outages.
According to Jinapor, the transformer rollout is a fresh initiative under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, supported by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, and not a continuation of inherited projects.
“These are newly procured transformers designed specifically to address gaps in the electricity distribution system and enhance reliability,” he emphasized.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to energy sector reforms, Jinapor stated that efforts are ongoing to expand capacity and meet rising demand, while maintaining stability in power supply nationwide.
“Let me assure Ghanaians that the energy situation is stable,” he said, expressing confidence in the current trajectory of improvements within the sector.
