The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has condemned an assault by one of its personnel on a pharmacy attendant and a female customer at a drug store located within Burma Camp in Accra.
The soldier, captured in a viral video physically attacking the two civilians, was arrested at dawn on Thursday, October 30, 2025, by the Ghana Military Police.
In a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF said the suspect is in custody and assisting with investigations.
“The victims have received medical attention and are also assisting in the ongoing investigations,” the statement added.
The disturbing footage, which first aired on GHOne TV and went viral on social media on Wednesday, sparked widespread public outrage. It showed the uniformed officer assaulting the pharmacy staff and the customer during what appeared to be a disagreement inside the shop.
The Armed Forces strongly denounced the conduct, stressing that it does not tolerate acts of indiscipline or abuse of civilians by its personnel.
“The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public that it will not condone any acts of assault on civilians and will not shield any soldier engaged in such behaviour,” Captain Arhin emphasised.
The GAF has in recent years taken a tougher stance on unprofessional behaviour among its ranks, underscoring its commitment to discipline and accountability.
Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
