Members of Abor Ewusu Twidan family of Gomoa Fetteh, under the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council have accused the Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, Gomoa East District Chief Executive, and Solomon Darko Quarm of causing unnecessary tension in the area.
The members descended heavily on the two government appointees accusing them of meddling in the Gomoa Fetteh chieftaincy dispute with their alleged open-support for the Mankralo of Gomoa Fetteh Stool, Nana Kwesi Kwansi popularly known as Kwasi Alhaji and his followers, to illegally organise this year’s Gomoa Fetteh Akwambo annual festival, which grand durbar is slated for tomorrow, Saturday August 31, 2019.
At a press conference yesterday, the Chief of Gomoa Fetteh, Nana Abore Ewusie XX,l noted that this year’s celebration of Gomoa Fetteh AKwamba annual festival was docked with the high court injunction from the Agona Swedru.
He stated that despite court injunction on the festival, the DCE and Mr. Duncan have teamed with Kwasi Alhaji and his cronies to allegedly print a colourful brochures and brazenly invited respectable citizens of the country including the First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo, members of parliament, ministers of the state to grace the illegally organised festival.
He stated that they have dragged some elders of the Abor Twidan family, including the Mankralo of the Gomoa Fetteh Stool, Nana Kwesi Kwansi to Agona Swedru High Court in their bid to place an embargo on the celebration of this year’s Gomoa Fetteh Akwamba festival.
The applicants through their counsel, Mr Nkrabeah Effah-Darteh, are pleading with the Agona Swedru High Court to restrain the respondents from engaging in traditional rituals, duties and customs until the Judicial Committee of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council has disposed of a petition challenging the legitimacy of Nana Abor Yamoah II as Divisional Chief of Gomoa Fetteh Traditional Area.
He maintained that the writ of summon was filed by Barrister at law, Captain Nkrabeah Effah-Darteh (Rtd) on behalf of the elders, heads and principal kingmakers of the ruling Abor Ewusi Twidan Royal family on Thursday August 22, 2019, asking the court to place a ban on the celebration of this year’s festival.
Flanked by the elders of Abor Ewusi Twidan Royal family, including the Queenmother of Gomoa Fetteh Divisional Area, Nana Nkrabea Anoasi I, Head of Twidan Royal family, Nana Kofi Ahomka,Captain Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey and spokesperson for the family, Nana Owusu Boamah, Nana Abore Ewusie XX called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to impress upon the national security agencies to ensure that they restrained the Mankrado of the Gomoa Fetteh Stool and his cohorts from celebrating this year’s festival in order to avert any possible clash and violence in the area.
The chief stated that the call by the elders for the President to ban the celebration of this year’s festival was also premised on the reason that rival chief, Nana Abor Yamoah II whom the substantive Chief of Gomoa Fetteh, Nana Abore Ewusie XX was battling in court for his legitimacy.
To this end, Nana Abore Ewusie XX called on First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, together with some key officials, to dishonour the invitation extended to them by an unrecognised group to this year’s ‘Akwambo’ festival.
According to the chief, the man in whose name the invitations were being extended is dead and currently at the mortuary of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
But in a quick response to Abor Ewusie Twidan Royal family outburst, the Secretary to the Divisional Chief of Gomoa Fetteh, Mr, Eric Agyiri Duodu, on behalf of the chief and elders explained that their chief had travelled outside the country for medical treatment, assuring that he will soon return.
Furthermore, he said “our chief is alive and kicking,” adding that the chief reserves the right to maintain and retain his medical conditions private and not make a disclosure of it to the public.
We are surprised at the action and inactions of Captain Nkrabeah Effah-Darteh (rtd), who is a senior lawyer for supporting the bad behaviour of the members of Abor Ewusi family of Gomoa Fetteh to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians, that Nana Abor Yamoah II had died about four months ago, but his cronies are deceiving the public that he has travelled abroad to seek medical attention.
In an angry tone, Mr Duodu challenged the public, particularly the media to go to the mortuary of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to find out or to check whether indeed the number produced by Mr Effeh-Darteh and his cronies as registration number was true dead body of Nana Abor Yamoah II.
