Government has launched the Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank (GKSB) portal, a digital platform designed to enhance access to quality education and skills development.
The launch, spearheaded by the Minister for Communication and Digitalization, marks a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation agenda and commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in education.
Speaking at the event, the sector minister, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful highlighted the uniqueness of the project, noting that Ghana is only the second country in Africa, after Egypt, to introduce such a portal.
She emphasized that with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, Ghana’s platform will be the most advanced on the continent.
“This momentous occasion represents a significant stride toward digital transformation and inclusive development. The portal is designed to ensure equitable access to quality education for all, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4,” she stated.
The minister added that digitalization is reshaping education, making it essential to harness technology to revolutionize teaching and learning processes, stating the key features and objectives.
The portal is equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to personalize learning and track student progress, making it easier for learners to know their strengths and areas for improvement.
It also offers educational resources that can be accessed from any device, bridging the gap between urban and rural students and ensuring that all learners have access to high-quality learning materials.
In addition to academic resources, the platform provides materials for vocational and technical education, allowing students to learn new skills from home.
The minister celebrated the fact that the platform was developed by local Ghanaian companies, emphasizing that the government is committed to supporting local talent and using its purchasing power to boost local industries.
As part of her address, the minister encouraged students, educators, and parents to embrace the platform, urging them to explore the vast resources available.
She also mentioned that the portal’s AI capabilities could track student progress, helping students to improve their performance and ultimately excel in their academic and vocational pursuits.
The government has partnered with various stakeholders, including Punto Technologies and MTN, to develop and sustain the platform. The launch reaffirms Ghana’s commitment to digitalizing education and leveraging technology to build a skilled workforce for the future.
The minister further lauded local technology companies for their contributions, noting that local businesses have been pivotal in the success of national digital projects, including the National ID system and the digital addressing system.
She expressed optimism that the GKSB portal would be a model for other African countries, showcasing the quality of Ghanaian talent on a global scale.
The Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank is expected to be a key driver in achieving inclusive and equitable education for all, promoting lifelong learning opportunities in the digital age.
The Minister For Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who partnered with the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization on this initiative, commended the collaboration that made the project possible.
