A group calling themselves as Concern Citizens For Justice, have passionately appealed to the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Akufo Addo, and all concerned parties to kindly temper justice with mercy and grant the Personal Assistant (PA) to the National Security Coordinator, Mr. George Asante, and others, who were remanded into Police custody for alleged illegal mining in the Atiwa Forest in the Eastern region.
According to the leadership of the group, George Asante, has diligently served this country with full dedication in the military for 19 good years with very good record before his voluntary retirement.
The group, also claim that George Asante has not been involved in any national issue on bad record, Government should kindly consider his good works towards national development and at least grant him bail, as the case continues in court.
They also defended that, the allegation that Mr. George Asante, was dismissed from the military, is also false and just fabricated story to tarnish his good image and clean record as a principled man.
The leader of the group, who gave his name as Mr. Fred Kweku Duah, who spoke with this paper in an interview yesterday pointed out that, George Asante has rather been known for his consistent fight against galamsey and has described him as a very principled man who has always discharged his national duties with all diligence and honesty, and a man who would not support what would pull this country down whatsoever, and must therefore be pardoned by the court by granting him and the others bail as the case proceeds.
According to the Information, the accused has since his arrest, maintained his innocence to the crimes he was claimed to have been committed, as his lawyers appeal for his release.
It has emerged that, as at the time of the arrest of the 32 individuals who were all from the Ashanti Region, George Asante, was in was Accra carrying out his national duties and was not even aware of what was going on in the Eastern Region at the time.
Sources have disclosed that, every attempt of George, had been one that would help to move this country forward, and not to pull it down.
His arrest and accusations, has rather appeared to a lot of people who have spoken with this paper as just a way to silent him from his principles and pull his own integrity down in the country by some people who might not be happy with his orderliness and fair way of fighting against crime in the country.
The accused, has also maintained his innocence of being the one who supplied the 30 others any ammunitions to go into the forest as alleged.
“According to our information, a call has also been made to the Operation Vanguard Commander to make a public statement on the whole development since he has been named as the one who is officially in charge of the who galamsey issues in the Region, because, according to concerned ctitzens, his total silence is not helping matters at all” the group disclosed.
Meanwhile, the accused persons are expected to reappear before court today Friday, June 4, 2021. This is where the concerned group and many Ghanaians who know the good deeds of Mr. George Asante, in his splendid discharge of his duties and how helpful he has been to this country, are passionately appealing to the government, the Attorney General, the Chief Justice, and all concerned parties possibly concerned or involved in this case to kindly temper justice with mercy and grant Mr. George Asante and the other accused bill as they appear before the court today, the 4th of June, 2021.
“It is just a plea, we are only appealing to the Government and the court to only temper justice with mercy and at least grant the accused bail today, as we are very sure that they would be available before the court at any scheduled time” Mr. Duah, the leader of the group appealed.
