An group of illegal miners, (Galamsey operators) have invaded a large concession belonging to the Ghana Consolidated Mining company, popularly known as Akwatia Diamonds and clearing the vegetation for mining activities.
Videos and pictures available shows large tracts of land have been cleared by the illegal miners led by a high profile senior citizen whose name has been withheld for now. The illegal miners didn’t even spare the high tensions power lines on the concession that are transmitting power from the south to the northern parts of the country. They have excavated underneath the power lines and rendered them useless. The metals holding the high tensions electricity lines have thus, become week and could fall easily during rainfall or a storm.
The destruction of the transmission lines has become a threat to human lives and steps must be taken to stop the illegal miners from causing mayhem.
A patriotic citizen at Akwatia, Mr. Robert Bosompim, in an interview appealed to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to instruct his minister for Lands, Mines and Natural Resources to assign a task Force to the area in a bid to halt their activities.
“As I speak to you, the Police Commander in Akwatia and his team of Police officers are aware of the situation but are afraid to confront the illegal miners because we are told some powerful forces are behind them and encouraging them to destroy the land for gold. We need the president to intervene urgently to save lives and properties” he said.
