Held at the Labadi Beach Hotel on September 18th, the event embodied its mission of driving sustainable growth, fostering innovation, and promoting global collaboration across Africa’s tech landscape.
With the theme “Empowering Africa’s Future, One Innovation at a Time,” IMFEST 2024 attracted a diverse audience of tech enthusiasts, industry leaders, innovators, and students from across the continent and beyond. The event focused on three key pillars: Youth Empowerment, Climate Change, and Bridging Global Innovators, aiming to equip the next generation with tools to address challenges like social justice, sustainability, and international cooperation through immersive and emerging technologies.
Keynotes and Highlights: IMFEST 2024 opened with keynote addresses from global tech leaders. Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director of Kosmos Innovation Center, emphasized the potential of AgriTech to revolutionize agriculture. Nikolet Zwart, CEO of Biolegal, explored Blockchain’s role in cross-industry partnerships. Joshua Opoku, President of STEM Ghana, and Hanc de Bokx, CEO of RecellGhana ComputerLabs, highlighted the transformative power of digital education for Africa’s future. Petra Wadström, CEO and Founder of Solvatten, emphasized the critical need for safe water, noting its profound impact on daily life while showcasing Solvatten’s solutions for saving time, energy, and resources. The globally renowned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas also delivered a compelling speech, revealing the hidden issues of immigration and slavery in the fishing industry.
Freda Adjoa Oforiwa Mantey, Acting Head of ESG, Climate Finance, and Sustainability at Development Bank Ghana, spoke on integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles with a strong emphasis on climate finance. Other notable speakers included Ingmar Rentzhog, CEO of WeDon’tHaveTime, who explored the carbon economy, Vanessa O’Hara Aidoo UX/UI Manager MTN Ghana, who discussed UX/UI innovations, alongside a roster of other esteemed speakers.

Workshops and Exhibitions: Workshops were a key highlight, with sessions led by Nick van Breda on how XR can revolutionize education and job creation. Hanc de Bokx led a session on digital literacy and overcoming access barriers, while Nikolet Zwart discussed leveraging Web3 technologies for equitable agricultural supply chains.
The festival also showcased African startups in health tech and IoT, including Rivia Care and IoT Network Hub Africa, spotlighting innovations that aim to improve healthcare and education across the continent.
