Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) marked its 65th anniversary with a grand celebration that combined history, innovation, and a renewed vision for the future.
The school’s most distinguished alumnus, President John Dramani Mahama, graced the occasion and led a series of high-profile projects aimed at transforming GHANASCO into a modern educational and sporting hub.
The President commissioned a newly constructed smart block equipped with cutting-edge learning technology designed to enhance teaching and learning.
He also cut sod for a modern assembly hall complex, a long-awaited facility that is expected to serve as a central venue for major academic and social events.
But it was the unveiling of a major sports development project that stirred the most excitement among students, staff, and the large crowd of old students who attended the ceremony.
The new sports complex—currently under construction by Wembley Sports Construction Ltd., a company famed for delivering world-class sporting infrastructure—is set to redefine GHANASCO’s athletic profile.
The ultra-modern complex comprises an astro turf pitch, running tracks, floodlights, and a 1,000-seater spectator stand complete with changing rooms, offices, and a treatment facility.
To further promote variety in physical education and nurture talent in multiple disciplines, the project also includes a basketball court, volleyball court, and a multipurpose court for emerging and lesser-known sports.
According to Wembley Sports Construction, the facility is designed to provide students with a professional-level sporting environment while supporting holistic education through physical development and teamwork.
The event also celebrated GHANASCO’s remarkable legacy, reflected in the influential personalities it has produced over the decades.
Among its most prominent alumni are President Mahama and First Lady Mrs. Lordina Mahama, whose presence added emotional weight to the event. Members of Parliament Mahama Ayariga (Bawku Central), John Jinapor (Yapei-Kusawgu), and Alhassan Suhuyini (Tamale North), all products of GHANASCO, were also acknowledged for their contributions to national development.
The school further boasts legendary Ghanaian footballer Abedi Ayew “Pele,” whose global achievements continue to inspire young sports talents across the country.
School authorities and alumni emphasized that the 65th anniversary is not only a time to celebrate past achievements but also a moment to redefine the school’s future. With the ongoing infrastructural transformation and the renewed commitment of its old students, GHANASCO aims to expand its academic excellence and nurture future leaders across all fields.
The anniversary celebration concluded with a call for continued support from stakeholders to ensure that GHANASCO remains a beacon of quality education in the Northern Region and Ghana at large.
