The Ghana Studies Association (GSA) is set to host its maiden Independence Day webinar on Friday, March 6, 2026, as part of activities commemorating Ghana’s independence anniversary.
The virtual event, scheduled for 4:00 pm GMT (11:00 am EST), will be held via Zoom under the theme “Ghana in Uncertain Times: Independence, Crisis, and Possibility.” Organisers have indicated that interested participants must register through the association’s official website to gain access.
The webinar will feature special addresses from President John Dramani Mahama and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
In addition, the programme will assemble distinguished Ghanaian scholars, including Akosua Adomako Ampofo, George Bob-Milliar, Maame Mensa Bonsu, Tracy Mensah, and Ato Quayson.
The panel will explore Ghana’s independence not merely as a historic event achieved in 1957, but as a continuing national journey shaped by present-day challenges and emerging opportunities.
According to the GSA, the webinar inaugurates a broader series of public engagements designed to reinforce the association’s role as an intellectual hub contributing to national development through research, dialogue, and public scholarship.
The association, a coordinating body of the African Studies Association in the United States, was founded in 1988 as the Akan Studies Council before rebranding as the Ghana Studies Association to reflect its expanded research focus on Ghana and its diaspora.
Today, the GSA connects scholars across Africa, North America, Europe, and Asia, promoting rigorous research, teaching, and public outreach aimed at deepening global understanding of Ghana’s history, culture, and contemporary development.
