The Owuo We’ Royal House, also referred to as the Principal Royal Family of Osu, has through the Head of Family Samuel Nii Adumuah Okwei-Nortey released a statement to roundly reject the announcement of Nii Ako Nortei as acting Osu Mantse.
In the aftermath of the demise of the Chief of Osu, Nii Kinka Dowuona VI, there appeared to be a certain level of peaceful collaboration among the elders of all the four Dzaase Houses of Osu Kinkawe, to ensure that Nii Kinka Dowuona VI was given a dignified burial which is yet to be accomplished until the purported announcement of Nii Ako Nortei as the acting Chief hit the people of Osu.
The announcement was received with a bit of shock and surprise by a cross section of the people of Osu as they considered it as an aberration to their laid down traditional norms.
Attached below is the full text of the protest letter to the Kinkan We Dzaase of Osu.
“I write on behalf of the Owuo We Principal Royal Family to strongly and unequivocally object to the purported planned announcement of Nii Ako Nortei as acting Osu Mantse. We would like to make it clear that such an act is both illegal and counter to traditional norms and practices of Osu.
The Osu Mantse position is the preserve of the Owuo We and Dowuona We families of the Kinkanwe Quarter of Osu. In the absence of an Osu Mantse it is the Dzaase of Kinkanwe that sees to running of the traditional affairs pertaining to the Osu Stool. The Osu Mankralo who hails from Osu Ashante is limited to acting as the President of the Traditional Council, a body which is a creature of legislation.
In fact, the Greater Accra Regional House in a press statement dated August 24, 2021, stated “the position of acting presidents are purely statutory and not customary, so acting presidents who meddle in the installation of paramount chiefs are advised to desist from that. Acting presidents don’t take over palaces or stools because it is not within their jurisdiction to do so.” We strongly advice the purported perpetrators of this act to desist.”
