Professor Nyuiemedi Agordzo Edoh-Torgah, Head, Department of Counselling Psychology, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has emphasized the growing importance of competent counsellors in promoting mental health and national development.
She said in a world saddled with stress, workloads and other uncertainties, it was only through constructive Counselling approaches that individuals and societies could make better and informed choices for holistic national development.
The Head, Department of Counselling Psychology, University of Education, Winneba said at the third Graduation ceremony of the Goodlife School of Counselling and Psychology, an accredited institution by the Ghana Psychology Council to provide well structured Counselling and Psychology education for individuals desiring the Counselling profession.
The Graduation ceremony was under the theme: “Building Competent Counsellors for Positive Impact and Social Transformation.”
Lay counsellors have a duty of care at the churches, schools and hospitals among others to help shape minds and hearts of distressed individuals or those needing direction in a given situation.
They also have an obligation to refer clients for enhanced care.
The colourful ceremony brought together distinguished guests, faculty, graduands, families, and well-wishers to celebrate the successful completion of the Certificate in Counselling Programme and to recognize the dedication, hard work, and achievements of the graduands.
Apostle William Kojo Edzorhoho, Area Head, the Church of Pentecost, Downtown Ofaakor Area, challenged graduands to uphold professionalism, integrity, and service to humanity.
Elder Acheampong Obo, Chief Executive Officer of the School said the school remained committed to raising competent, ethical, and compassionate counsellors who would make a lasting impact in Ghana and beyond.
Some students who topped their cohort included Dr. Oliver Mills, for Cohort four, Mr. Prosper Kweku Gamor, Cohort five, who also emerged as the overall best student and David Kofi Opoku for cohort six.
Among the graduands was Mrs. Mildred Siabi-Mensah, a Deaconess and senior editor of the Ghana News Agency.GNA
