The driver of the truck abandoned on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line that led to Thursday’s train crash, Abel Dzokoto, 41, has been jailed for six months.
He was sentenced on his own guilty plea by the court. The case was arraigned on Friday, 19 April, 2024, where four count charges were read to the accused, namely: Careless and Inconsiderate driving Contrary to Sect. 3 of RTA 683/ 2004 as amended by Act 761/ 2008, Unauthorized Stopping Contrary to Sect. 19 of ACT 683/ 2004 as amended by ACT 761/ 2008, Causing Unlawful Damage Contrary to Sect. 172 ( 1b) of ACT 29/ 60, and failing to produce Drivers license.
Abel Dzidoto pleaded guilty to all charges except count four. He was, as a result, convicted and sentenced to 100 penalty units in default 20 months imprisonment for Count 1.
He also pleaded guilty to and convicted and sentenced to a fine of 20 penalty units in default 5 months. The accused pleaded guilty convicted and sentenced to 6 months with no fine.
Sentence to run concurrently. The case was then adjourned to 9 May 2024 for Accused to prove his case on Count 4. Recall that the accident involved a new train government procured from Poland, which was undergoing a test run within the Asuogyaman District on Thursday, April 18.
