The Youth of Akwatia have vowed to keep illegal miners far away from the Ghana Consolidated Diamonds concession in their quest to protect the area from illegal mining activities
This comes days after this paper’s publication about the invasion of some powerful illegal miners on GCD concessions in Akwatia in the Eastern Region.
Information gathered reveals that, the leader of the illegal miners invited the youth group to a meeting to discuss the issue to enable them undertake their illegal mining activities but the group rejected the call for compromise.
The youth group vowed to protect the state property until the last drop of their blood and wouldn’t bow to the aggressors demand
“We will not allow any miscreant to come and destroy what belongs to the state. We will do everything within our means to protect GCD and therefore appeal to the President , Nana Akufo Addo to assign the anti-mining Taskforce to the area to expel these illegal miners” Robert Bosompim, the youth leader stated .
Videos and pictures available shows large tracts of land have been cleared by the illegal miners led by a high profile senior citizen whose name has been withheld for now. The illegal miners didn’t even spare the high tensions power lines on the concession that are transmitting power from the south to the northern parts of the country. They have excavated underneath the power lines and rendered them useless. The metals holding the high tensions electricity lines have thus, become week and could fall easily during rainfall or a storm.
The destruction of the transmission lines has become a threat to human lives and steps must be taken to stop the illegal miners from causing mayhem.
Robert Bosompim, in an interview appealed to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to instruct his minister for Lands, Mines and Natural Resources to assign a task Force to the area in a bid to halt their activities.
