There is currently turmoil within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Techiman South Constituency of the Bono East Region.
The situation is said to have escalated in the already divided front within the party in the area following fallouts from internal polls.
As a result, an 80-year-old man and two others are confirmed to have been beaten to pulp by alleged thugs of the Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Nuhu Fawa, following the raging confusion.
The victims have since been treated and discharged from Holy Family Hospital in Techiman after sustaining some severe injuries as a result of the attack by the hoodlums.
Videos available reveal a free-for-all fight at the premises of a local radio station as the Chairman is said to have ordered his boys to beat up guests of the station; accusing them of propagating falsehoods against his personality on the airwaves.
According to members of the party in the constituency, the target of the attacks were persons who had fallen out with Alhaji Nuhu Fawa over what is yet to be made public.
As a result, there had been a media war between the two camps in the wake of the sacking of two constituency executives further heightening the already existing tension.
He claimed in a letter signed by constituency secretary Edward Fosu Nsowah that Fuseini Nafiu and Yussif Mohammed exhibited gross insubordination by engaging in anti-party conduct which goes against the ethics of the party.
Some branch executives and dozens of party supporters clad in red arm bans on Saturday, July 9, 2023 on hearing the development besieged the constituency office and reportedly closed down the party’s office accusing the constituency chairman of engaging in illegality.
Arrest of Constituency Chairman Alhaji Nuhu Fawa.
The Bono East Regional Police Command subsequently arrested Alhaji Nuhu Fawa who was arraigned before the Techiman District Court on Monday July 10, 2023.
His plea was not taken but his lawyer pleaded for an out of court settlement since it was an internal party matter.
It took the intervention of opinion leaders and some party elders to get the victims except for an out of court settlement.
The trial judge subsequently granted the request and gave both parties a month to resolve their irreconcilable differences.
