Former Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Hon. Catherine Afeku has refuted spurious speculation being bandied about that she had abandoned Alan Kyerematen, a leading contender in the flagbearer contest of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
That those who were quick to go to town with the bogus allegation could not differentiate between the former Member of Parliament (MP) who just pick nominations form for her come back’s work at her constituency from that of the presidential candidate she supports, Catherine Afeku said, tells how shallow minded they are.
Interesting and also as a mark of unity, the former MP for Evalue-Gwira constituency’s campaign manager is a Kennedy Agyapong fan, her constituency chairman, a vice president Bawumia and she is with Alan cash. “That was the beauty of choice,” she told this paper yesterday.
According Mrs. Afeku, she is in her constituency campaigning for herself, and campaigning for Alan at the National level hence, the claims of her abandoning the Alan camp is nothing but false and fabricated lies.
She explained that when members of her constituency are sick, she is the one in the constituency to take care of them and not the presidential aspirant or president; and when she wins, she will go to Parliament, and the president would to Jubilee House hence “If you support president candidate A or B, it’s not part of the constituency election so you choose me and vote for any presidential aspirant you want, and don’t let anyone intimidate you.”
Hon. Catherine Afeku after receiving her forms from the teeming supporters, last Tuesday used the occasion to advised her fellow contestants to have their own message and vision for the constituency and to desist from insults.
According to her, whoever emerges winner amongst them will need the rest to campaign.
She therefore admonished fellow contestants to be civil towards all presidential contestants and that the penchant of intimidating delegates for a particular candidate because of their position in the party is not democratic.
