Tempers are flaring at Adjena, a suburb in the Asuogyaman district in the eastern region, over what indigens say is the wrongful burial by the Krobo settlers in the community.
Beside the unauthorized burial, the site for the interment was also closer to River Kyinamomu, the only source of drinking water for farmers in the area, which is also very close to the Volta Lake.
The story is that one Gabriel Natey, a relative, allegedly, unlawfully buried the mortal remains of a deceased (Kofi Belay), who passed away on April 26, 2024, at Adjena in the Asuogyaman District, on the Amankrado family land on 27 April, 2024.
without proper authorization.
“This unauthorized burial has raised concerns about potential environmental and health impacts, which may cause unrest and exacerbate tensions between Adjena citizens and Krobo settlers,” an unsigned letter of complaint dated 29 April 2025, addressed to the Regional Police Commander in Koforidua, and copied other security and environmental agencies stated.
The Adjena indigens are therefore threating to exhume the body of the deceased if authorities do not to take action on the matter and douse the tension, which could lead to communal clashes between the two ethnic groups.
