The Chief Executive (MCE Officer of the Ga East Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, has been accused by residents of Atomic Roundabout of illegally issuing permit to a washing base operator.
The residents have disclosed that the location of the washing base was a flood prone area which causes flooding whenever it rains. It also connects the area to the main atomic road.
The residents allege that the owner of the washing base is a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and believe that he is using his political power to control the MCE.
Addressing the media after a peaceful demonstration against the MCE, yesterday, Leader of the Group, Pastor Anthony Kwarteng said “I have on several occasions visited the office of the MCE to register our displeasure over the construction of the washing base but to no avail”.
He said he has been using his own money to link the road to the main road but was recently stopped by the MCE in an attempt to hand over the place washing base owner.
“The MCE recently ordered that I should be arrested because I was insisting that a road should be contructed instea of a washing base.” he stated.
“The construction of this road was started by Hon. Prof. Mike Ocquaye in 2008, but he was not able to complete it. The distance left is about half a kilometre and I, (Very Rev. Anthony Kwarteng), have it upon myself to complete the road but been prevented the MCE” he further disclosed.
The Leader of the Group also stated that they have reached a distance where the fence wall is serving as an obstacle to the progress of the work, saying Currently it is left with about just 15 feet to complete the construction.
Meanwhile, all efforts to hear the side of the Ga East MCE proves futile.
